Desert Sage
Bouviers started with our foundation bitch,
Ch. Donlee Petunia. Thru very careful planning our Breeding program produced 12
champions thus far out of Petunia, with Our very special
Ch.
Desert Sage Cactus Rose
bringing up the rear. All of our bitches are six star health
certified for hips, elbows, knees, patella, heart, and CERF for eyes.
The dogs we choose to breed are likewise six star health certified.
Petunia's first litter
out of the gorgeous Donlee Moonshine Del Robles produced 3 champions:
Our very first champion was
Ch. Desert Sage Yogi
co-owned and loved by Don Mar and Amy Pederson.
Next was
Ch. Desert Sage Prairie Moose,
owned and loved by Toni Strataman.
And then there is
Ch. Desert Sage Palo Verde, aka Rasta,
owned and loved by Rebecca Machook.
Yogi and Moose started
their show careers at the tender age of 6 months and one day, at the
American Bouvier des Flandres Club Specialty in Pleasanto, Ca. Yogi
was a bit shy at first, but after getting lots of attention (and
cookies) from everyone on the show grounds, he soon decided dog shows
were pretty fun.
The following year at
the ABdFC Specialty in Mesa, AZ
Yogi was shown in the Best of
Breed Class and made it to the final cut. He was so happy he even
smiled at his audience. Our three boys entered futurity that year with
Yogi taking first place, their half brother Jester taking second, and
Moose taking third. Their mom Petunia, and dad Moonshine were very
proud.
The following year we decided to do a re-breeding of Petunia and Moonshine. This
breeding produced the following champions:
Ch. Desert Sage Sweet Jazmine (Jazmine)
Ch. Desert Sage Toulouse (Toulouse)
Ch. Desert Sage Howlin at T Moon (Hogan)
Ch. Desert Sage Cactus Jack (Jasper)
Ch. Desert Sage Impatiens (Vinca)
Petunia's last and final
breeding was to the gorgeous Ch. Avion's XKE at Susant's (Jag) which
produced the following Champions:
Ch. Desert Sage Sashtie
of Morningstar
Ch. Desert Sage Abigale Blossum
Ch. Desert Sage Trail Blazer
Ch. Desert Sage Diamondback

Bouviers are not for
everyone! Bouviers are large and strong and need obedience training
and lots of time and attention (just as other large breeds do). They
need a lot of daily exercise and plenty of room to run. Bouviers
require a lot of grooming - daily brushing and weekly baths. Their
coat can matt easily if not brushed regularly and their beards are
usually wet and/or dirty (they love to wipe it on you)!
Bouviers want to be with their owners but also need to be socialized
with other people and animals. In short, they are like kids,
they need to know who's the boss but still get lots of love and
attention!
Grooming is Important! Bouviers have a
very thick double coat, and they require daily brushing and weekly
baths. Their beards are always dirty and/or wet, and their coats will
matt easily if not given the brushing they need every day. It may seem
like a lot of work but the results are well worth it!
